London riots are a triumph of capitalism

The riots in London are complex and complicated. No point in trying to analyse it very deeply right now. But what did sound odd was how some of the looters were saying this was about ‘showing the rich we do what we want’. Right.

So you are unhappy with your lot and feel oppressed by the capitalist society where the rich keep on getting richer while others toil away? And your response? Instead of revolting properly, overturning the system, changing things, or even taking out your frustration on the actually rich people, or politicians… umm… you hoard their priced products like a trust fund kid in heat and there’s a good change you’ll end up in jail for it?

Somewhere, in the deep dungeons of multinational corporations, there is a bunch of brand managers happily adding up the numbers… ‘They’re maiming, burning and killing for our products! And look, no one has even bothered to touch Waterstones. Oh what a crappy next quarter they’re going to have…’

What are you wiling to do for your Sony?
